About Natural Diamonds
At Rhys James, we work exclusively with natural diamonds, selected for their beauty, rarity and individual character.
Formed deep within the Earth over billions of years, every natural diamond is unique. No two are exactly alike. Their subtle differences in proportion, light performance and personality are what make the search for an exceptional stone both fascinating and deeply rewarding.
Selecting a diamond is about far more than its carat weight or certificate. It is about understanding the relationship between proportion, light, rarity and the individual who will wear it. The finest diamonds possess a quiet presence that reveals itself over time.
For this reason, we approach every diamond individually. Rather than relying solely on grading reports, we carefully assess each stone for its overall beauty, balance and character, ensuring it is worthy of becoming part of a Rhys James creation.
Every natural diamond is selected for its beauty, balance and character.
Beauty Beyond the Four Cs
While the internationally recognised Four Cs — colour, clarity, cut and carat weight — provide an important framework for assessing a diamond, they tell only part of the story.
The way a diamond reflects light, the precision of its proportions and the subtle qualities that create visual harmony are equally important. These are characteristics that cannot always be expressed through numbers alone.
Our role is to guide clients beyond specifications, helping them recognise the qualities that transform an exceptional diamond into a deeply personal choice.
The Four Cs provide a valuable framework for understanding a diamond. Those wishing to explore them in greater depth will find further information in the Further Reading section.
Natural Rarity
Natural diamonds are among the rarest materials found in nature. Each one represents an extraordinary journey that began billions of years before it was ever discovered.
Their rarity is not simply measured by scarcity, but by the remarkable combination of geological events required for their formation and survival. This enduring connection to the natural world is one of the reasons they have remained symbols of love, celebration and legacy across generations.
Every natural diamond begins as something extraordinary.
Provenance & Traceability
Increasingly, clients wish to understand not only the beauty of a diamond, but also its journey.
Where appropriate, Rhys James can source selected natural diamonds with provenance information recorded through Tracr, a leading digital platform developed by De Beers to help record a diamond's journey through the supply chain.
Where available, this provides an additional layer of confidence regarding a diamond's recorded provenance, complementing its grading documentation and supporting a more complete understanding of its story.
Not every natural diamond will include this information, however when available it offers clients another way to appreciate the remarkable journey of their diamond before it becomes part of their own.
Choosing the Right Diamond
Every client is different, and every commission begins with a conversation.
Whether selecting a classic round brilliant, an elegant emerald cut or a beautifully proportioned Asscher cut, our role is to source a diamond whose beauty, rarity and character feel entirely right for the individual.
Because ultimately, the most meaningful diamonds are not defined by statistics alone, but by the connection they create and the memories they will hold for generations to come.
The finest diamonds reveal their character over time.
