Rhys James is an independent Australian jewellery maison founded on the principles of Beauty, Rarity and Legacy. Every piece is personally designed by Rhys James and created in collaboration with a trusted team of specialist craftspeople. The Maison accepts a limited number of commissions each year.

All Rhys James jewellery is personally designed by Rhys James, Creative Director and founder of the Maison. A De Beers Award-winning jewellery designer, he works across both bespoke commissions and signature collections, overseeing each piece from concept through to completion.

Rhys James is based in Melbourne, Australia and works with private clients locally and internationally by appointment. Appointments take place in a private consultation suite overlooking Melbourne. Designed for conversation rather than display, the space provides a discreet setting in which to explore bespoke commissions, engagement rings and fine jewellery collections.

What defines a bespoke commission?

A bespoke commission begins with conversation. Each piece is developed in response to the individual, resulting in an object that reflects personal meaning, refined proportion and contemporary form.

Timeframes vary depending on complexity, materials and stone selection. Most bespoke commissions are completed within approximately six to twelve weeks from final approval.

Most Rhys James pieces are specially made to order in Australia. This allows each object to be finished with exceptional care while reducing unnecessary production and excess.

Rhys James works exclusively with natural diamonds selected for their beauty, rarity and character. Each stone is carefully sourced through trusted international partners and chosen for its individual qualities, with an emphasis on exceptional cut, colour and clarity.

Through an international sourcing network, Rhys James can access a wide range of exceptional natural diamonds, including rare cuts, larger stones and highly specific characteristics.

Rhys James completed his secondary education at Geelong Grammar School before studying Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) in 1992. He later completed the Applied Jewellery Professional (AJP) program through the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
